Winter Break entertainment that won’t bust your budget
It feels like the kids just got out of school, and you’ve already run out of ways to entertain them. After all, there’s only so many times you can listen to them sing along to K-pop Demon Hunter. Instead of succumbing to the holiday madness, look at our list of activities you can do with the whole family that won’t put a strain on your wallet.
From Mice to Ice
Greenville is a popular spot for a reason. Main Street is full of holiday cheer and festivities for any family member and at any price point. If you’re looking to spend, well, nothing, then we suggest searching for the Mice on Main. Pro tip: Do the scavenger hunt as the sun starts to set to really take in the holiday beauty.
Also in the free category, you can view the creatively decorated trees at the annual Festival of Trees at various hotels throughout downtown.
If you don’t mind spending a little money, then tickets to skate at Ice on Main are only $10.00.
Movies Galore
There really has never been a better time to go to the movies. There are so many ways you can get discounts on tickets, it’s rare that you’ll ever have to pay full price.
- Option 1: Greenville Federal Credit Union sells discounted tickets to Regal Cinemas. Get tickets for any regular showing for only nine dollars.
- Option 2: Every Tuesday at Regal Cinemas is Discount Day. Tickets for any regular showing are only $7.99.
- Option 3: Throughout the holiday season, Regal Cinemas screens holiday classics. From Christmas Vacation to the Grinch, and everything in between, you can have a big screen experience for these beloved films for only $7.99 a ticket.
Putt Putt – Holiday Style
It’s no secret we love Mini Golf; we may have even featured it on another list, so imagine our delight when we found out Takeoff Golf near the Downtown Airport has a holiday overlay! Yes, you can golf in miniature while surrounded by Christmas lights. So, put through the lights, and watch your ball (and your family) glow with holiday cheer.
Go for a Drive
One of the best things about the holidays? Other people’s light displays. Sure, you’ve done an admirable job in your own home, but is every inch covered in twinkling lights? Luckily, there are members of our community where this is the case. Our friends over at Kidding Around Greenville have put together their annual list of driving routes (external link) that make it easier than ever to bundle up, pack a thermos of hot chocolate, get the kids in the car, and enjoy the magic of the holidays.
Learn About Saving
We’d be remiss if we didn’t take this opportunity to discuss how important and enjoyable it can be to start talking to your kids about money.
By starting at a young age, you remove the stigma and fear that can often surround talking about finances. Pair this with opening a Youth Savings Account with Greenville Federal Credit Union for your child. It really is the gift that keeps on giving.
When you open their Savings Account, you’ll be setting them up for a lifetime of financial responsibility. And when they reach the age of 13, open them a Youth Checking Account with Greenville Federal Credit Union, too.
From everyone here at Greenville Federal Credit Union, we wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
